Corsham Church

This place has been a centre of Christian worship for over one thousand years. There was certainly a Saxon church on this site long before the Normans invaded England in 1066 A.D. It is recorded that William the Conqueror granted the church at Corsham to tbe Abbey of St. Stephen at Caen in Normandy. The present building dates from the middle of the twelfth century, but there have been many changes and additions since then, ending with a major restoration in Victorian times. Read more in our church guide.

St. Bart's Spire Appeal
Over the centuries bits have been added to the church, sometimes bits taken away and many repairs. Now we need to do some major repairs and some improvements. The stonework on the tower is crumbling—we already have netting to prevent falling stones hurting people below—and the spire needs to be re-pointed as it is letting in water which causes further damage. We have damage to the stonework around some of the windows, so they are at risk too. In addition, we want to improve the facilities at the church by installing a toilet and an area for serving teas and coffees.
This ambitious project will cost £250,000 and we need your help. For generations, the church has presided over Corsham Park and the many happy hours spent there by children at play, dog walkers and those simply out for a breath of fresh air. Many service men and women and their families have fond memories of their time in Corsham. Others have admired the church as part of its quintessentially English setting. Whatever, if you remember St Bartholomew’s, please support our appeal as we strive to preserve its fabric and role in the 21st Century.
See our Spire Appeal page for details on how you can help.
